<<<<< previous blog album containing this post's photoI am what the ruling class thinks I am - Woke, socialist, liberal, hippie snowflake. Always have been, always will be.
The majority of voters, the popular vote, have decided the course for the nation - Misogyny, demonizing the weak, voodoo economics, "common sense" over facts, absolute power, hatred, nationalism, lies and fascism. I reject all of that. If this is the real America then I want no part of it. If the United States has become a country of intolerance and injustice, then I live in a country I find unacceptable. If that makes me a despised member of the woke minority, then so be it. I believe in peace, light, love, joy. I believe in peace, light, love, joy. I believe in peace, light, love, joy.
America, as a nation, has voted against the core values of decency and compassion, and has embraced instead a politics of power before virtue, of revenge for imagined wrongs, nostalgia for an imagined past, and bullying as strength. As a nation we have picked as savior a lying, racist dictator. And with the GOP in control of all three branches of government this will only become more entrenched. Free speech will be moderated, voting will be limited, justice and healthcare will be for those who can pay. That is the plan. Our "melting pot" nation will become a caste system with the rich being virtuous and the poor being unworthy and unclean. The best educated experts will become the liars. In the "greatest nation on Earth", rather than feed the hungry we will put them in concentration camps. Fuck that. Fuck all of it.
For me it changes nothing other than this - I used to be a proud American, and now I am un-American.
I will always love the concepts the country was founded under - Equality, freedom, justice, and the idea that power must serve and be granted by the common folk. I will always believe that all virtue should derive from compassion. I will always believe that we should be judged by how we treat and care for the least of us. That doesn't change. And if that refusal to follow the Trump cult means I am an unpatriotic, treasonous, subversive, then I embrace that. I am woke and believe trans folks are just folks. I am a snowflake who believes we should redistribute wealth to end homelessness. I am a hippie who trusts love and peace.
You want to know why I believe the things I do? Here it is. Kindness, gratitude, community, courage, wisdom, equality, moderation. If those things lead you to call me names, then I embrace them proudly. I believe in truth, equality and compassion, which makes me a snowflake, which makes me not part of Trump's America. So call me names. But.... you don't need to call me un-American, because the popular vote makes that obvious. I am un-American.
The American popular vote defined the sides. Now I pick one. I'm on the woke side.
