Thanksgiving 2019 Menu

Doing Thanksgiving with family this year in the frozen wastes of Montana. Need to get my menu dialed in to impress.

Back when I was living in Irvine my second marriage ended when my wife packed all our stuff in a moving van while I was at work, and left a note suggesting perhaps the relationship wasn't going to work out. Since she was fucking some other guy. Standing in a living room with just a couch was also a good indication it might be over.

It was a bit of a low point.

With Thanksgiving coming up I decided I needed to do something just for me. Something that would let me spend the holiday being thankful for what I had. Rather than dwelling on the whore who had ruined my life.

So I spent all Thanksgiving cooking one yummy dish after another. Drinking myself into a comforting stupor.

That started a tradition I've kept up for the 20 years since. For me Thanksgiving is the best holiday. A time to celebrate great food and bounty. A time to dwell on good things. A time to be thankful. But mostly just a 14 hour cooking and eating marathon.

Most years it's just for me. Which I like. No pressure. But this year I'm heading to the sister's house to do the endurance cooking challenge for everyone there. Since they'll be forgoing any normal Thanksgiving traditions, I'll need to get it right. Pressure is on. Here is this year's menu :

Pre breakfast : 6am
Champagne, fresh squeezed OJ, brie, pate, salami, crackers.

Breakfast : 8am
Thanksgiving Benedict - Sausage and cranberry dressing base, grilled ham slice, sunny side up egg, hollandaise.

Snack : 9am
Goat cheese crostini with port soaked fruit - Toasted sourdough, sweetened goat cheese, port marinated fruit, honey drizzle, fresh thyme.

2nd Breakfast : 10am
Smoked salmon and Gruyere croquettes with tangerine crema

Brunch :11am
Rouladen with red wine pan sauce and rosemary dumplings

Lunch : 1pm
Turkey & cranberry tamales with roasted salsa verde - Sweet corn mash, shredded dark meat turkey, cranberry relish.

Snack : 3pm
Chicken Marsala stuffed mushrooms.

Appiteaser : 5pm
Crunchy mashed potatoes with poblano gravy - Crunchy roasted potato, sour cream and onion mashed potatoes, buttermilk and poblano gravy.

Sharon's dessert

Got the archive section here done finally. Fires and power outages in CA haven't effected me. I doubt they will. I'm fairly close to downtown with no brush to wory about.
