<<<<< previous blog next blog >>>>>Sunday to-do list : 1) 4am walkies, 2) sunrise on the bay photos, 3) f'ing "Sober October".
One of the reasons I love San Diego is all the great opportunities for sunrise photos. I've taken thousands of sunrise photos here, and there are still tons of compositions I haven't gotten to yet.
I really do need to get out more at sun up. But my combination of laziness and video game addiction cuts into that goal quite a bit. There is also the problem that about 1/2 the time you show up an hour early, wait for everything to develop, and it just doesn't. Sure, the sun rises, but it's not worth taking a photo of.
Weather apps and sunrise prediction apps help, but only a little. I've had days where the Internet tells me not to bother, and then I look out my window and it looks like the sky is on fire. Other days all indications are that it will be epic, but I end up standing in soupy fog.
And while any serious photographer should be able to find a good photo anywhere, I'm not really a serious photographer. I take photos because it makes me happy. And scrambling around in the cold at 5am trying to make a great photo from nothing isn't really my happy place. I tackle enough challenges at work.
Thankfully, today we got a great sunrise.
Just a note about that paddle boarder - He is crazy. San Diego Bay isn't all that wide when you see all the sailboats, military ships, fishing boats, cruise liners, and tour boats speeding through. You don't see any in these photos, but that's either good timing or lots of Photoshop. I sometimes wonder why I never read about such daredevils being run over here. It looks like he's having fun, and good for him, but geez.
On a different topic : Sober October. What a stupid idea. None of you even tried to talk me out of it. Just, "Yay Jon! You got this!". But what have I got? This shit is boring. I constantly feel bugs crawling all over me. And news flash, headaches are no fun. I'm sure clean living works great for Captain America and Mormons. But I can not wait to tuck into a triple mocha, a family size bag of Twizzlers, and so many craft beers I need a walker and some adult diapers.
